MPC-3000 and Newport Systems™

Spectra Service Bulletin

Due to a software change, gauge error has been noted in the MPC-3000 filter monitoring system. It is important to test to see if the system is affected and change the wiring on the sensors to accommodate the individual system. Please do your best to contact all of your Spectra MPC and Newport customers to have them check their system.

If the sensor wires are color-coded red and green please make sure that the Red is on the input filter and that the Green is on the output filter. It is not necessary to remove the sensors only the cable plugs. Simply unplug the sensors and exchange the wires. Please note that there are catches on the receptacles to prevent the plug from vibrating out. This is all that is required.

It is advisable to remove the color code heat shrink on the sensors to avoid future confusion.

If your system is not color-coded then a simple test is required. With the system running, unplug the output cable. If the pressure display disappears and the error code "Service prefilters" comes on then you will need to exchange the input and output cable sensor cables.

If you show any differential on the filter condition mode after you make this change, and the filters are new and clean, then the system needs to be zeroed out. To accomplish this, simultaneously press the Display and Autoflush buttons. This should zero out the system so that there is no filter differential shown during operation with clean filters.

Several of the early Newport 400 and Monterey systems do not have a vacuum switch on the feed pump inlet sensing the strainer condition. We suggest upgrading any systems that may not have this option. To identify this switch, remove the front cover of the Newport unit. There should be a tee next to the inlet of the feed pump with a vacuum switch installed. The list price for this upgrade kit is $60.
